This letter is in response to the news article "Native elder on fifth day of hunger strike jailed for Muskrat Falls protest" that appeared on the April 10, 2013 edition of the Daily Herald. According to the news article James Learning, a 74 old elder, has been arrested for slowing traffic on a highway near the $7.7 billion Muskrat Falls Hydro Project.

For the past two (2) weeks, we have been watching Chief Spence on National News regarding her hunger strike in Ottawa.

We commend and support Chief Spence for her courageous fight with the Canadian Government about the rights of First Nation people and the Indian treaties our Ancestors signed over 100 years ago.

CONCEPT PLAN FOR A TRADITIONAL
CREE NATION CUSTOM COUNCIL

As part of its traditional governance strategy the Kaministikominahiko-skak Cree People of Cumberland House territories plan to exercise our rights to sovereignty and self-determination by establishing a Traditional Cree Custom Council (Clan Family Representatives) for the Heifer Project.

VISION

Our vision is to return to our Clan System of governing where the Cree families have a voice and are in charge of a land based project we are starting in Cumberland House.

COMMUNITY TAKES ACTION TO REDUCE CHILD HUNGER AND POVERTY

In a May 2012 visit to Canada Olivier De Schutteer, United Nation right to food special envoy says that Canada needs to drop its “self-righteous” attitude about how great a country it is and start dealing with its widespread problem of food insecurity.
"What I've seen in Canada is a system that presents barriers for the poor to access nutritious diets and that tolerates increased inequalities between rich and poor, and aboriginal (and) non-aboriginal peoples".

This letter is in response to the Prince Albert Daily Herald's news article "Sturgeon Lake youth hit the links for summer fun." that appeared on Page A1 of the May 25 edition of the Daily Herald.

Good for you David Vallee and the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation for initiating a golf program for children regardless of their economic status in the community. I believe this program will pay off in the long run for your community.

European Boat People Invade North America
Over 400 hundred years ago the European’s began their occupation of this country. Landing on the eastern shores, they made their way across the lands laying claim to all they set foot on leaving a bloody path of destruction in their wake.
