FSIN Removes John Cochrane Motion From Agenda

A Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations senator says there was a violation at the FSIN's legislative assembly in Saskatoon today when an item was removed from the agenda by amendment.

The John Cochrane First Nation was seeking membership into the FSIN, but that resolution was removed from the agenda.

Senator Sol Sanderson says there is a process followed to put an item on the agenda in the first place.

He says it is vetted through the Senate, which is to ensure there are checks and balances.

John Cochrane First Nation will hold a general information meeting Wednesday September 16 at 1:00 pm at the Cumberland House LCA Hall on the H1N1 Swine flu pandemic.
Nancy Dorion, Registered Nurse and health educator, will give a presentation and provide updated information on the pandemic followed by a question and answer session.

2009 Pandemic Influenza (H1N1) Update – August 19

THE PANDEMIC INFLUENZA VIURS (H1N1) CONTINUES TO SPREAD RAPIDLY AROUND THE WORLD. HEALTH EXPERTS ARE PREPARING FOR A SECOND MORE SEVERE WAVE OR OUTBREAK SOMETIME THIS FALL.

Illness and deaths related to this new virus continue to be relatively low in numbers over the spring and summer months, however as the regular flu season approaches this fall there are wide spread concerns that the virus will become more potent and infect more people.

Current phase of alert in the W.H.O global pandemic

The current alert status issued in June 2009 is Phase 6 - Pandemic -“A new influenza virus subtype is causing disease in humans and is spreading efficiently and sustainably among humans.”

After a marathon voting session consisting of 8 ballots, Shawn Atleo has been elected as the new National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
