• Collect supplies for a minimum of 2 months. Health authorities predict more than one “wave” of the influenza attack. Each wave may last 4-6 weeks.

Current phase of alert in the W.H.O global pandemic

The current alert status issued in June 2009 is Phase 6 - Pandemic -“A new influenza virus subtype is causing disease in humans and is spreading efficiently and sustainably among humans.”

Atleo sworn in as AFN National Chief

After a marathon voting session consisting of 8 ballots, Shawn Atleo has been elected as the new National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

Mapping of Traditional Territories in the Cumberland House Region

The Cumberland House Cree Nation and the Metis people of Cumberland have received money from the federal government and have entered into an agreement with the provincial government to map traditional territories in the Cumberland House region.
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and the provincial government are ignoring their duty to consult with the John Cochrane people because they claim that we are not a recognized band.

There will be a band meeting next month August 10th, 2009 at 2pm at the Cumberland House Civic Centre.

Senators Meet With Leaders Of Unrecognized Bands

Chiefs of excluded bands hope today's meeting with Liberal senators will bring them one step closer to the federal government recognizing them.

Chiefs from the John Cochrane First Nation, Chakastaypaysin First Nation, and Peter Chapman First Nations, as well as Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations senators, are meeting with members of the Senate's Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs in Saskatoon.
